About The Practitioner

Carol Metzker is a certified sound therapist, trauma tapper (cert. TTT) and international speaker.

Carol Metzker is a certified sound therapist, trauma tapper (cert. TTT) and international speaker. For the last 16 years she has served as an ally for survivors of human trafficking, trauma and injustice. She authored Facing the Monster: How One Person Can Fight Child Slavery, and coauthored A Shield Against the Monster: Protecting Children from Human Trafficking with a survivor. A board member for organizations working against injustice, sound therapist at Thistle Hills, past consultant to the New Day to Stop Trafficking Program and volunteer for Dawn’s Place, Carol was awarded Rotary International’s highest honor for Service Above Self.

Carol often collaborates with other practitioners including in Pilates/yoga, guided meditation, a harpist for music/sound baths for chakra cleansing, and other holistic, trauma-informed or restorative therapists. Travel and collaboration with other practitioners delight her and influence Carol’s work. Staying at a guest house at a monastery in Kathmandu, at the Tibetan Buddhist temple she first experienced a sound bath that profoundly inspired her… even though she didn’t know what it was. Meeting children rescued from slavery in India led her to work with survivors of trafficking and trauma. Carol’s banana bell and her daughter’s djembe that she plays were purchased one summer when they taught school in Ghana. Carol loves traveling with her husband, adores two grown daughters, feels grateful to her parents for piano lessons starting at age five, and hangs out at flower farms or hiking trails.

Healing Sounds

Discover the instruments used throughout sound therapy, along with the therapeutic benefits they provide to mental & physical health.

Sound therapy utilizes a variety of instruments that produce certain frequencies and vibrations—and invite use of the body (such as drumming)—which have been found to promote wellness and address specific health issues. Some of the therapeutic instruments used throughout Carol’s events include: crystal singing bowls, tongue drum, djembe drums, various chimes, strumok, & percussion instruments (including two frog rasps named Elton and Jerry). Listening to soothing sounds or vibrations helps to reduce the production of stress hormones like cortisol; this promotes relaxation, calms the mind, and reduces feelings of anxiety and tension. Certain frequencies and rhythms can stimulate the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin which improves mood, alleviates symptoms of depression, and enhances emotional well-being. Gentle, rhythmic sounds can affect brainwave patterns, promoting deeper relaxation and better sleep; this reduces insomnia, enhances sleep quality, and supports overall mental rejuvenation. To learn more about the instruments used throughout these sound therapy sessions and events, please visit the event's page. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
